<image:title>Blog - Dancing Into The Night</image:title>
<image:caption>T, I wish I had something profound to say about the life you’ve lived and the days ahead of you. But I am so engulfed by this present darkness that all I can think of, yearn desperately for, is for some kind of drastic ending. Not death, although my leaving seems almost enticing now—for isn’t it in the face of its horror that we reckon with time, that we somehow feel the unspoken urgency of reconciliation? If I only had this day to live, wouldn’t I want to wrap my hands around her and plant a kiss on her cheek? Wouldn’t I say “None of it matters, none of it matters now.” But no, I’m thinking more like an end to this long tiring dance. For something to snap out of place. For something to arrest our attention and force us to see each other anew. For something in us to give in, let go, and come to terms with what this fight is doing to us. And if nothing else changes, you should, T. Come out of whatever this is. Leave it all behind. That burden to be understood? To have someone be accountable for the role they played in this? All that sorrow and fear, and yes—I know how deep—let it fall off your shoulders. All of it. Look how light.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Journal Entry: On Grief</image:title>
<image:caption>What do I do with this loss? How do I put it down? Where do I hide it? How does one walk through this thing? Doesn’t this tragedy terribly change us? Doesn’t it leave us a little broken, a little bewildered? Look at us, how our lives implode at the news. How little control we have. How feeble our attempts to save, to preserve, to keep something that’s long been taken away from us. Even in all our bitter agony, we are reminded yet again of our own vulnerabilities and depravities. It is as if life mocks us, whispering to us that the help we so yearn to offer is also what we need. How quickly evident it becomes that nothing begins and ends with us. The unknowingness of it all humbles us. Makes us like children who know to turn to a Being more powerful and immutable. Once we come to terms with our own mortality, we are faced with the undeniable truth of an immortal God. The evidence of Him has always been all around us, and now it is even more palpable in our inexplicable desolation.</image:caption>

<image:caption>There are days when it feels as if something has been ripped out of me and I cannot find the language for it. I cannot stretch my hand to a part of my body and point to where it hurts because everywhere throbs. When I think I’m rising above it, pulling myself from under the water, it strikes me again, with a greater force than the last. Perhaps it is painful because it should be. This is suffering, after all. I expect nothing less, and yet, it overwhelms me again and again. Time does not stop for me. The labor & miracle of living continues, and demands my urgent participation. I take a deep breath. I wash my face. I put food in my sore mouth. I force myself to do something. I make small attempts at normalcy knowing very well nothing is like it was. Something has shifted in my world, and now I shall move through it carrying the weight of this perpetual grief. I will learn to live in it. I will find new joys, make new memories, but like a scar that sits covered under a dress, there my grief will be—present, hidden, etched through the years.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Favorite Things: Three Podcasts for The Road - Thirty Minutes with The Perry’s</image:title>
<image:caption>I just recently shared a reflection on Jackie Hill Perry’s book, Holier Than Thou. So I’m sure this comes as no surprise. On this podcast, co-hosted by her husband Preston Perry, the couple breakdown the Word and through exciting personal narratives, bring fresh perspectives about living as a believer in the modern world. The Perrys are jovial and have such a friendly and lighthearted set-up; sometimes it feels as if you’re just meeting up with a group of friends for coffee. I don’t believe their fun side takes away from the work they’re doing; if anything, it opens us up, and creates loving and kind conditions within which often controversial issues can be tackled. Some topics covered include relationships & marriage, social justice, cancel culture, etc. I have many episodes that I wouldn’t mind revisiting but this one was so convicting for me: Toxic Friendships. It completely changed my outlook on the idea of ‘toxicity’ (this episode was recorded in 2019, a time when the word was everywhere—and nearly everything we disliked was quickly labeled as toxic).</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/62b43979232bd46362f99a59/331124aa-f40a-4439-a6f7-78be3f451ef6/IMG_4079.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Blog - Favorite Things: Three Podcasts for The Road - Knowing Faith</image:title>
<image:caption>So I actually discovered this podcast because Jackie recommended it on her Instagram (At this point, I know I’ve completely given away my admiration for the woman of God ha, but that’s okay). This is the first podcast I’ve engaged with that takes the ‘teach the text’ approach in an exciting & non-traditional fashion. It’s like going to church all over again, but super fun because you laugh a lot. There are three brilliant hosts of Knowing Faith: Jen Wilkin, JT English, and Kyle Worley. These people are pastors, bible teachers and with some fancy theological seminary background, and so yes, this has been my introduction to terms like complementarianism and other interesting theological views. If this sounds daunting, it shouldn’t, because what they really do is explore topics that the everyday Christian hears about and experiences. I love that the friendship between these three comes through as they listen to each other, poke fun at each other and even—wait for it, disagree with each other in very respectful and mindful ways. Their conversations are honest, their arguments are grounded in God’s Word, and the perspectives they bring on board are so needed for our times. I love that they talk about the hard stuff and clearly grapple with some questions on air.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Favorite Things: Three Podcasts for The Road - Whoa That’s Good</image:title>
<image:caption>My close friends know I love a good interview. I could listen to writers, chefs, actresses talk about their work, their process, their struggles, all day, and then some. It wasn’t hard for Sadie Robertson’s podcast to quickly climb to my favorites list. Sadie’s a champ and a Jesus-loving, always-smiling, sweet-voice kind of lady. On her podcast, she invites people and the very first question they’re asked is: “What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?” I’m always fascinated by what people share, and the stories they carry with them, and how a statement could be so meaningful that it altered how they thought about things or even themselves. So this is very much interview-like in setup but it easily becomes a conversation (as most good interviews tend to do) where Saddie and the guests simply share their hearts, testimonies, and their walk with God. Some of these conversations are so vulnerable, so deeply moving and just filled with godly wisdom that I want to press tightly to my chest and never let go. One of these is her chat with Lisa Bevere (another powerful teacher and preacher) which left such a huge impression on me. These two women opened up about expectations and hurts, their painful childbirths and how they had to navigate feelings of fear, and disappointment. There are no filters. They don’t tie a happy-ending bow on the narratives of their lives. They are honest about it and unwavering in their faith in God, and confident of His redemptive power. This episode is so so good, and I hope you’ll listen to it now!</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Jackie Hill Perry’s “Holier Than Thou” - John Piper:</image:title>
<image:caption>“…The Scriptures reveal God’s glory. This glory, God willing, is seen by those who read the Bible. This seeing gives rise, by God’s grace, to savoring God above all things—treasuring him, hoping in him, feeling him as our greatest reward, tasting him as our all satisfying good. And this savoring transforms our lives.”</image:caption>
